How ResearchMentor AI handles your data
- Purpose. Your research projects, documents, supervision records and practice vivas are processed to support postgraduate supervision at your institution.
- AI processing. When AI features are enabled, excerpts of the document or project text you select are sent to an external AI provider (Anthropic) to generate suggestions. This only happens after the project owner has recorded consent, and every request is logged (without document content).
- AI is advisory. AI output is a suggestion. It is not a grade, an originality certificate, an approval, or an examination decision. Official decisions are made and recorded by your supervisors and the institution.
- Access. Only you, your assigned supervisors, and people explicitly granted access can read your documents. Administrators see aggregate statistics, not research content.
- Retention. Records are kept for the period configured by your institution and then purged. You may ask your institution's data protection officer to access, correct or delete your personal data.
- Legal basis. Processing is carried out in line with the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and applicable institutional policy. Contact your institution's data protection officer for requests or complaints.
